* * Tracy Lawrence, “Sticks and Stones,” Atlantic. This young (24) Texan distinguishes himself from all the Jones-Haggard wanna-bes with a flat, wide voice that recalls Roger Miller, with occasional flashes of John Anderson acrobatics. Only two songs on this debut rise above pleasant-but-forgettable: Lawrence’s own “Dancin’ to Sweet 17” and the bouncy, self-explanatory “I Hope Heaven Has a Honky Tonk.”
New albums are rated on a scale of one star (poor) to four (excellent).
