South Pasadena : 710 Freeway Forum Planned
The City Council will hold a public forum Monday night to discuss the status of the proposed extension of the Long Beach Freeway (710) through South Pasadena and neighboring communities.
State and federal transportation officials recently approved a final environmental impact statement, which pushes the project one step closer to construction. Completion of the 6.2-mile extension has been blocked by a federal court injunction since 1973.
The attorney and the lobbyist retained by the city to thwart the freeway link will be at the meeting, as well as a representative of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, which declared South Pasadena one of America’s 11 “endangered places” because of the freeway threat.
The forum is scheduled at 7 p.m. in the auditorium of South Pasadena Junior High School, 1524 Fair Oaks Ave.
