Missing Woman’s Car Discovered

About 50 sheriff’s deputies from Los Angeles and Ventura counties unsuccessfully searched all day Saturday for a missing 36-year-old Thousand Oaks woman after her car was discovered in Malibu Creek State Park.

Passersby called sheriff’s deputies about 7:30 a.m. Saturday when they saw a white Honda Accord hatchback parked off Las Virgenes Road, near Mulholland Highway in Los Angeles County, said Ventura County Sheriff’s Sgt. Keith Parks.

“Her purse wasn’t in it, the car was unlocked, it was not damaged, there were no signs of a struggle, no physical evidence to indicate foul play,” Parks said.

Dogs that were used in the search did not pick up any scent indicating where Huter may have gone, Parks said. “At this point, she may or may not have walked out for a hike or something. We don’t know,” Parks said.

“I don’t even know why she would be over there,” said Bob Huter, the missing woman’s father. “That’s not her territory. She had no business in that area.”

Huter’s parents reported her missing Wednesday afternoon when she failed to keep an important appointment. Friends said Huter, an ad saleswoman with Val-Pak mail advertisers in the San Fernando Valley, was very responsible and kept in constant contact with her family and roommate.

Huter was last seen between 2:30 and 3 p.m. Tuesday at a Canoga Park outlet of Pioneer Chicken, where she often ate, according to manager Kim Hwang.

“The whole thing is just totally out of character,” Bob Huter said. “But we haven’t stopped hoping and praying.”
