GOLF ROUNDUP : Floyd Leads by Three After His Third 67

Ray Floyd will put his reputation as one of golf’s top front-runners to the test today in the final round of the $1.5-million Doral Open at Miami. He opened a three-shot lead Saturday with a third consecutive 67.

“Let me have one more and I’ll just sit and watch television and watch them try to catch it,” Floyd, 49, said after completing three trips over the Blue Monster course in 15-under-par 201.

Fred Couples, who has not made a bogey in the tournament, shot a three-under-par 69 in the shifting winds and was tied at 204 with Larry Nelson, who shot a 65 despite bogeys on the last two holes.

“He’s a great front-runner,” Couples said of Floyd. “He’s playing good. He knows this golf course and the greens better than anyone. He will not beat himself. You can bet on that.”

Howard Twitty and Keith Clearwater are tied at 205. Twitty had a 68 and Clearwater a 70.

Floyd, who started the day leading by one, played the front side in 32, chipped in from 20 feet for birdie on No. 10, bogeyed the 13th after missing a very short putt, then got the stroke back with a 45-footer on the 15th hole, the birdie that put him three in front.

Judy Dickinson shot a three-under-par 69 for the third consecutive day to take a three-shot lead over Elaine Crosby at the LPGA Inamori Classic at Poway.

Dickinson, who started the third round tied for the lead with Crosby and Meg Mallon, made three birdies in a bogey-free round that left her at nine-under 207 for the tournament at StoneRidge Country Club.

Crosby matched par with a 72 and was second at 210. Mallon shot a 74 that left her at 212.

Tom Watson retained his seven-stroke lead in the Hong Kong Open by shooting a two-under-par 69 despite a double bogey on the last hole. Ronan Rafferty of Northern Ireland remained in second place with a 69 on the 6,732-yard Royal Hong Kong Golf Club championship course.
