Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown (Bravo Thursday at 6 p.m., again at 11 p.m.) With this nonstop, freewheeling 1988 farce, Spain’s iconoclastic Pedro Almodovar moved into the mainstream. Funny and sly, it stars Almodovar favorite Carmen Maura as a minor Madrid actress who wants to fall apart over the desertion of her longtime lover--but never has the time to do so.
Kiss of Death (AMC Friday at 4 p.m., again at 9:30 p.m.) Henry Hathaway’s 1947 classic film noir, with a crazed Richard Widmark famously shoving that wheelchair-bound lady down a staircase; not to be overlooked: Victor Mature as a crook turned stoolie.
Hester Street (Bravo Saturday at 5:30 p.m., again at 12:30 a.m.) Joan Micklin Silver’s totally beguiling 1975 debut film is set in a meticulously re-created 1896 Lower East Side and stars Carol Kane, who comes from the Old Country only to discover her husband (Steven Keats) has taken on perplexing American ways.
