“I always discover things from living around them,” sculpter Sandra Miller says. “Slate was all over the place before I started experimenting with it.”
Working with “very irregular, very inconsistent” slate from either China or Vermont, the Venice artist crafts “urban primitive” planter boxes and frames. The boxes start at $31, the frames at $56. Because the slate varies, so does the piece, Miller says. “And if it is going to break, it breaks (while I’m working on it).”
Sandra Miller’s work is available at Atelier 57, 2439 Main St., Santa Monica; (310) 314-4335.
