Wounded Whale Dies After Beaching Itself

TYBEE ISLAND, Ga. —
A pygmy sperm whale that beached itself, apparently wounded by a shark, died early Monday.
The 8-foot-long whale had deep gashes on its back and below its fins, said John Crawford of the Skidaway Marine Institute. It beached itself repeatedly when would-be rescuers returned it to the water.
