Rudy Friend, 17, a senior at El Modena High School in Orange, has been elected to a one-year term as Youth Representative in the California Council on Children and Youth. Rudy has been active in the Greater Volunteer Center of Orange County and wrestles and plays golf for his school.
Sunny Hills High School senior Steve De Neefe and sophomores Adam Carr, Ajay Patel, Eric Young and Henry Hsi combined to win first place in the recent Rancho Santiago College Math and Computer Problem Solving Contest.
Twenty Orange County schools competed, according to Beth Hillger, math and computer instructor. The five students shared equally in the $400 top prize cash award.
Rachel Tarr, a senior at Foothill High School in Santa Ana, was recently selected grand prize winner in the fifth annual High School Art Calendar Contest at Irvine Valley College for her drawing titled “Charting a Course.” She received a $100 scholarship.
