The Times criticizes Buchanan for saying women are “less equipped psychologically . . . in the brawling arenas of business, commerce, industry and the professions.” Every legitimate study has found this to be true. The proof is also in the numbers. If women were as competitive as men, their representation in many areas would not be a low percentage.

The Times has trouble with Buchanan telling the truth. By contrast there’s some quirk in our psyche that accepts the big lie. For example, when Mayor Tom Bradley extols the virtues of living in Los Angeles, most people get amnesia and agree with the mayor. Yet these same people know the only thing keeping them there is the big paycheck.
