SAN FERNANDO : Drunk Driver Sentenced in Deaths of Two

Share

A man who drunkenly lost control of his van, plowed onto a sidewalk and killed a man and his 2-year-old daughter was sentenced Wednesday to seven years in state prison.

Fabian Campos Perez, 25, charged with gross vehicular manslaughter in the deaths of Jose and Gloria Hernandez, broke into tears when he heard the sentence. The maximum sentence Perez could have received was 15 years, Lacey said. Because he had a clean record and had been so remorseful throughout the trial, Lacey said, she agreed to the shorter jail term. “He’ll be punished forever by his own conscience,” she said.

Perez lost control of his van in the 1200 block of Glenoaks Blvd. in San Fernando on Aug. 19 and crashed into the Hernandezes’ front yard. Jose Hernandez, a 41-year-old truck driver who was working in his yard, died instantly. Gloria died a day later at a Tarzana Hospital.
