Charles S. Buck; Pioneer Radio Announcer, Producer, Actor

Charles S. Buck, 91, pioneer radio announcer, producer, director and veteran character actor. The Boston-born Buck began his career on the East Coast in summer stock and as a radio announcer, and quickly moved on to Broadway. In the 1930s, he came to Hollywood, acting in 25 movies and working as a radio announcer for KFI and KHJ. He also became well-known for producing radio programs such as “The Jack Benny Show,” “The Bob Hope Show,” “The Burns and Allen Show” and “The Colgate Sports News Reel of the Air With Bill Stern.” He had been honored by the Pacific Pioneer Broadcasters Assn. for his more than 50 years in broadcasting. On Feb. 26 in San Diego of complications from a stroke.
