TAIPEI TRIPPER: The Bush Administration recently took a step toward upgrading ties with Taiwan by dispatching Assistant Secretary of Commerce Thomas J. Duesterberg as part of a trade mission to Taipei. He’s the highest-level U.S. official to visit Taiwan since 1979, when the United States established diplomatic relations with the People’s Republic of China.
