BASEBALL DAILY REPORT : DODGERS

While Hansen’s star is rising, third baseman Jeff Hamilton didn’t play during Monday’s 7-0 victory because of a sore hand and has been limited to eight at-bats in ‘A’ games. He has three singles.

Because Hamilton is out of options and has five years of service time, the Dodgers need his permission to send him to triple-A Albuquerque. Their other option is to release him.

The Dodgers will begin making cuts today, mostly minor leaguers who were not in contention for roster spots.

Among those eligible to be cut is catcher Mike Piazza, who had his second three-run homer Monday. He was originally scheduled to begin the season at double-A San Antonio, but after batting a team-leading .500 with a team-leading eight RBIs, Piazza may have won a job at Albuquerque.

Claire reiterated that he has not pursued Montreal Expos’ third baseman Tim Wallach, who has asked for a trade.
