Mitsui to Change Name: Mitsui Manufacturers Bank in Los Angeles said it will change its name effective April 1 to Manufacturers Bank because “Mitsui” is disappearing from the name of its Japanese parent. Jerry W. Johnston, president of Mitsui Manufacturers, said the name change came about because Mitsui Taiyo Kobe Bank will soon change its name to Sakura Bank. He said the name change does not stem from a desire to delete the Japanese name from the bank’s title in reaction to an anti-Japan backlash in the United States. Johnston further noted that the institution was founded 30 years ago as Manufacturers Bank.
