The Pontiac, Mich., Silverdome’s artificial turf caused the injury that left Mike Utley paralyzed from the chest down, an attorney for the Detroit Lion offensive lineman alleged in a letter to an attorney representing the Pontiac Stadium Building Authority. Utley suffered spinal injuries when he fell headfirst on the artificial turf during Detroit’s victory over the Rams Nov. 17.
