Huntington Park : Water Conservation Rule Relaxed From 25% to 10%

Share

The Huntington Park City Council has voted to relax its mandatory water conservation program, requiring customers to cut back water use by 10% instead of 25%.

The reduction went into effect immediately and consumers should see the difference on their water bills by April 5, said Ed Chow, finance director. The city’s mandatory water conservation ordinance has been in effect since last spring.

But the city will continue to penalize consumers who do not conserve at least 10%. A 200% surcharge is imposed on excess water used.

About 1,900 customers paid surcharges in the first two months of this year, city Treasurer Eileen Gerardi said.

Huntington Park took action because the Metropolitan Water District relaxed its mandatory conservation program last week. Huntington Park buys about 60% of its water from the MWD, which imports water from Northern California and the Colorado River for use in Southern California.
