VALLEYWIDE : School Principals to Visit Executives

Share

In a new twist on a program that brings business executives into Valley schools, 30 to 40 school principals next month will spend a day with executives at local businesses.

The exchange, sponsored by the Valley Industry and Commerce Assn., is aimed at showing principals and business leaders the similarities and differences between their jobs, said Carolyn Ellner, chairwoman of the VICA Education Committee and dean of the Cal State Northridge School of Education.

In turn, business executives will have a chance to see how they can help local schools, Ellner said.

About 80 letters have been sent to Valley business executives asking for their participation in the program that begins with a workshop March 31 and ends with a May 1 luncheon featuring a speech by state Supt. of Public Instruction Bill Honig.

Principals and business executives will pair up for a day during April, giving school officials a chance to observe business management styles.

The program will involve elementary through adult school principals from several areas including Los Angeles Unified, Burbank Unified and William S. Hart Union High school districts.
