A Royally Fun ‘Princess’

Re: “Plodding, Gooey ‘Gypsy Princess’ Staged at Center” by Martin Bernheimer, Calendar, Feb. 24:

After reading that hatchet job, we almost decided to stay home. But what the hell, we’d already paid $146 for the tickets.

When we got to the theater, I looked around at all the vacant seats and remarked that after reading that review a lot of people must have been embarrassed even to give their tickets to the baby-sitter. How could I possibly have been prepared for what followed? How could anyone have sat through that performance and not have to admit that he or she had experienced one of the most delightful, relaxing evenings in a coon’s age? Hey, when was the last time you could go into the men’s room and find a gaggle of tuxedos standing in front of the urinals humming “That Cupid Is So Stupid?”

In retrospect, I guess I should have picked up on one clue in the review: Anyone who would characterize the lack of supertitles as “merciful” is probably a lobbyist for the return of the short hoe to the migrant worker.
