BEAT GOES ON: Palm Springs Mayor Sonny Bono will hit the county twice in the next week to tout his U.S. Senate race. Today it’s a Republican lunch in Dana Point. . . . On Tuesday, it’s back to Dana Point for a fund-raiser at the Monarch Bay home of developer Kathryn Thompson. She says she supports both Bono and one of his GOP opponents, Rep. Tom Campbell (R-San Jose). The Bono event, she says, “is a way to help him get an open forum. Both candidates deserve that.”

Helene Elliott

Helene Elliott was with the Los Angeles Times’ Sports department from 1989 to 2024, first as a staff writer and then, starting in 2006, as a columnist.
