Pop Album Chart : ‘Wayne’ Blows by ‘Wind’

The “Wayne’s World” soundtrack, riding the success of the movie, hurled Garth Brooks’ “Ropin’ the Wind” out of the top spot of the Billboard magazine pop album chart. Brooks’ album, which dropped to No. 2, had been No. 1 for 18 weeks. It’s still a strong seller, though, and could very easily reclaim the top spot. Surprisingly, his 1 1/2-year-old “No Fences” album, which moved up a notch to No. 4, is still going strong. “As Ugly as They Want to Be,” by the hot new Santa Barbara rock band Ugly Kid Joe, jumped from No. 13 to No. 6.
* The third album by gravel-voiced pop-rocker Melissa Etheridge could be her biggest. “Never Enough” is off to the fastest start--by far--of the three, debuting at No. 21.
