VENTURA : Woman Admits to Filing False Claim

A Ventura woman who last year accused a county official of a conflict of interest pleaded guilty in Ventura County Superior Court on Friday to five counts of offering fraudulent information and one count of filing a false claim with the county.
Scarlett O’Casey, 47, pleaded guilty to the six charges at the end of a hearing in which a county psychiatrist determined she was competent to take part in her own defense, Assistant Dist. Atty. Charles R. Roberts said.
O’Casey’s pleas culminate a process that began last October, when she accused a county probation officer of accepting free legal aid from her ex-husband, a lawyer.
In exchange for the advice, O’Casey said, the probation officer failed to make her ex-husband pay her restitution after he was convicted of spousal abuse.
In her plea, O’Casey admitted to creating and submitting false documents to support her claim.
A sentencing hearing has been set for April 24.
