LOS ANGELES : USC Agrees to Pay Rape Victim $1.5 Million

Share

A former USC student who was raped at an off-campus facility settled her suit against the school for $1.5 million Friday.

She had been awarded $1.62 million by a Superior Court jury. The settlement was reached before the jury made a determination whether to consider punitive damages against USC. The jury found that the school had provided inadequate security and concealed the dangers of the area surrounding the dormitory from prospective student residents.

Attorneys for USC declined comment. Natasha Roit, attorney for the victim, said her client agreed to a settlement to avoid a possible appeal.
