LASER ERASER: Former Soviet leader Mikhail S. Gorbachev’s forehead birthmark might be the most famous example of a “port wine stain,” which comes from overgrown capillaries. But UCI plastic surgeon Bruce Achauer says in a health column in this month’s Better Homes and Gardens that these marks can be emotionally agonizing. . . . “Adults come to me having never shown the marks to anyone,” he says. His recommendation: laser treatments, which he says can reduce such marks by up to 90%.
