FULLERTON : Evening Markets Planned Downtown

Share

In a bid to boost its downtown, the city is planning its first European-style open-air, evening market, planned weekly through the summer and fall.

City officials are taking vendor applications from artisans, entertainers and food sellers for the market, aimed at attracting bargain hunters and pedestrians into the city’s center. The markets are to be held free every Thursday from 4 to 9 p.m., beginning April 9.

The night market is being underwritten with $30,000 in city Redevelopment Agency funding this year, with the hope that vendor fees will make the market a self-supporting project after its first year.

For next week’s opening, the city is expecting 25 to 30 vendors to line Wilshire Avenue between Harbor Boulevard and Pomona Avenue, which will be closed to motor vehicles during market hours.

The event will include a farmer’s market to be held in the Wilshire Avenue parking lot west of the Fullerton Museum.

Vending booths will cost $25 for nonprofit groups and $35 for commercial vendors. Applications are available by calling (714) 738-5357.
