MISSION VIEJO : $20,000 in Grants Go to Nursing Program

The Saddleback College Foundation recently secured more than $20,000 in grants for the college’s nursing program.

A $10,000 grant will go toward nursing scholarships and financial aid for Saddleback nursing students, and an $11,250 grant will pay for a heptovax program, which is a series of vaccinations against hepatitis for nursing students. These vaccinations normally cost about $120 per person, college officials said.

“The threat of hepatitis to health-care workers is probably greater than any other communicable disease,” said Dixie Bullock, dean of health sciences and human services at the college.

The grants came from the Carl W. Bull Fund and were administered through the California Community Foundation, a nonprofit foundation based in Los Angeles that administers nearly 400 charitable funds.

Last year, the foundation distributed more than $11 million in grants to various nonprofit organizations.
