Les Lancaster of the Chicago Cubs was among 10 players placed on unconditional release waivers on the final day to release players with non-guaranteed contracts without paying their full salaries. Lancaster, who was signed at $1.1 million, was the fourth player with a million-dollar contract let go during spring training, joining Kevin Seitzer, pitcher Bill Landrum and shortstop Alvaro Espinoza. . . . Seitzer, placed on release waivers by Kansas City last Wednesday, signed with the Milwaukee Brewers for the major league minimum of $109,000 with the chance to make another $200,000 in performance bonuses. He had signed with Kansas City for $1,625,000 and will get $401,786 in termination pay from the Royals, which is 45 days salary. . . . Cleveland cut three players: infielder Jerry Browne ($800,000), outfielder Mike Aldrete ($350,000) and pitcher Shawn Hillegas ($295,000). . . . In other moves, Boston released pitcher Dana Kiecker ($167,500), Cincinnati released pitcher Tim Layana ($135,000) and San Diego released third baseman Craig Worthington ($235,000). . . . Also released were Baltimore pitcher Eric Hetzel ($170,000), Montreal infielder George Canale ($114,000) and San Francisco pitcher Eric Gunderson ($115,000). . . . Sandy Alomar’s three-run homer off Lance Dickson keyed a four-run third inning, leading Cleveland to an 8-2 victory over the Cubs. It was the Indians’ final exhibition game in Tucson, Ariz., which has served as the team’s spring training home for 46 years. The Indians will move their spring base to Homestead, Fla. in 1993.
