GM Tops Fortune 500, Disqualified From Rival List: General Motors Corp. remains atop the Fortune 500 list for a seventh straight year, the magazine said, but the giant auto maker’s huge losses kept it off a rival top-50 list compiled by Forbes magazine. Fortune said 1991 was “an unparalleled disaster” for corporate America, with overall annual profits for top corporations plunging 41% to $55.1 billion. The magazine’s list of the 500 biggest industrial companies, published in the April 20 issue, shows that more than 20% of the companies--103 in all--lost money last year. Forbes puts General Electric at the top of its 1992 Super 50 list of the most powerful U.S. companies, which will appear in the magazine’s April 27 issue.
