COUNTYWIDE : Bush Trade Critic to Be Guest Speaker

Share

Author Pat Choate, a critic of Bush Administration policies toward Japan, will be the featured speaker at a World Affairs Council of Ventura County event today in Camarillo.

The event will be at Ottavio’s Banquet Center, with a private reception at 4:30 p.m. and a public presentation at 6 p.m.

Choate, author of the book “Agents of Influence,” has argued for several years that the Reagan and Bush administrations have failed to protect American industries from unfair Japanese competition.

Choate and Clyde Prestowitz, a former Reagan Administration trade negotiator, were both invited to a recent Republican committee hearing in San Diego on economic and trade issues.

They did not attend and were subsequently told not to come by the Republican National Committee because their opinions are considered to be diametrically opposed to the party’s trade policy.
