Laettner, O’Neal Lead All-Wooden Team
Duke’s Christian Laettner and Louisiana State’s Shaquille O’Neal were among those selected to the 1992 John R. Wooden All-American team, it was announced Wednesday.
Also selected to the Wooden All-American team were Harold Miner of USC, Don MacLean of UCLA, Jimmy Jackson of Ohio State, Alonzo Mourning of Georgetown, Calbert Cheaney of Indiana, Todd Day of Arkansas, Bobby Hurley of Duke, Anthony Peeler of Missouri and Walt Williams of Maryland.
The winner of the Wooden Award as the nation’s college basketball player of the year will be announced next Wednesday at the Los Angeles Athletic Club.
The top five players, as voted by 1,000 sportswriters and broadcasters, will attend along with their coaches.
Wooden, who coached UCLA to 10 NCAA championships in 12 years before retiring in 1975, will present the award.
Laettner, Mourning, Day, MacLean, Peeler and Williams are seniors, while the other players are juniors.
