Santa Monica-Malibu : Finalists for Schools Chief

Share

Members of the Santa Monica-Malibu school board, nearing the completion of their search for a new superintendent, will interview finalists for the job next week.

A spokeswoman for the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District said the board hopes to make its choice by the end of the month.

More than 70 people applied for the job after Superintendent Eugene Tucker announced last year his intention to retire June 30. A panel composed of three high administrators from other school districts narrowed the list of most qualified candidates to 12, and the school board in recent weeks has reduced the list to seven.

The seven were interviewed last weekend by board members and a 27-member community panel. At a closed meeting on Monday, the board cut the lists of finalists further. District officials declined to state the number of finalists.
