A Star Is Born: Mikhail Gorbachev is stepping off the world stage and onto the silver screen. The last leader of the Soviet Union took time out from a lecture tour in Germany last month to play himself in a new film by German director Wim Wenders. The movie, a sequel to the director’s “Wings of Desire,” tells the story of an unemployed angel who flies around Berlin from one strange encounter to another. “Far Away, So Close” is the film’s working title; it’s scheduled to be released early next year.
