* Service Corp. International has closed its San Diego-based cemetery management division and transferred 230 jobs to the company’s corporate headquarters in Houston, SCI spokesman Bill Barratt said Thursday.

While SCI’s 230 San Diego-based employees were offered jobs in Houston, only about 70 accepted the transfers, Barratt said. The consolidation, which began during the third quarter of 1991, is “just about completed,” Barratt said.

SCI, with 11,000 employees nationwide, operates 655 funeral homes and 163 cemeteries. The company operates about half a dozen facilities in San Diego County. Employees at those cemeteries and funeral homes were not affected by the consolidation, Barratt said.
