LIBRARY PINUP: Laguna Beach science-fiction author Gregory Benford is the Orange County Public Library’s new poster boy. . . . He’s the seventh local author chosen to appear on the library’s annual poster, available at all 27 branches beginning Monday, National Library Week. Benford, a UC Irvine physics professor, says : “I really am impressed with how the library has been the first to recognize that there is a genuine, distinct literary community in Orange County.”
