One of the victims in a weekend double slaying at a local motel was identified Sunday, but the other man’s identity remained undetermined, police reported.

Police said the circumstances of the two fatal shootings remained a mystery Sunday. “We still don’t have a motive or a suspect,” said Lt. Ray Welch.

Officers said that one of the slain men was Jose Ramierz Aviles, 21, of Modesto, but that they were unable to get a positive identification of the second victim, a Latino man who was about 30.

The bodies of the men were discovered Saturday morning on the floor inside a bullet-riddled room at the Westward Ho Motel, 415 W. Katella Ave., near Disneyland.

Police said they had few clues, despite intense investigation since the bodies were found at 7:40 a.m. Saturday. The bodies were spotted by other guests at the motel who looked inside the open door and saw the grisly scene.

Sgt. Chet Barry said each man was shot in the upper body about 1 a.m. Saturday. More than eight shots were fired in the room, he said.

Police have said the incident is definitely a double homicide and not a murder-suicide.
