SAN DIEGO : Police Impersonator Rapes Woman

A 24-year-old woman was raped by a man impersonating a policeman, San Diego police said Monday.

The woman told police she was driving south on Interstate 15 between Via Rancho Parkway and Pomerado Road on Friday night when she spotted a vehicle with a flashing red light close behind her, police spokesman Bill Robinson said.

When the woman pulled over, a man flashed a gold badge, told her to get out of her car and asked to see her license and registration, Robinson said.

He then handcuffed the woman, placed her in the back of his vehicle, pulled out a gun and raped her, Robinson said.

The woman, a San Diego resident, was then released. The rapist sped away.

He is described as white, about 30 years old, 6-foot-1, with a medium build. He has dark hair with a receding hairline and was wearing a wide, Western-style belt with a large buckle, Robinson said.

Anyone with information should call 531-2325, Robinson said.
