B of A on Verge of Texas Deal: BankAmerica Corp. is expected to emerge as the new owner of failed Sunbelt Savings in Dallas when the results of the bidding are disclosed Friday. The trade publication American Banker, following similar reports out of Texas last week, said the San Francisco bank has been awarded the thrift. The bank has previously confirmed that it bid on Sunbelt and that expansion in Texas is one of its highest priorities. BankAmerica, which has 19 offices and $724 million in deposits in Texas, will add 112 branches with deposits of $3.4 billion with the acquisition from the federal government of Sunbelt, which was created in 1988 by combining eight of Texas’ sickest thrifts.
