Killer Bees Have Public Buzzing
Public concern over next year’s expected arrival of so-called killer bees in California will be discussed at public meetings to be held later this month and next by the San Diego County Department of Agriculture, Weights and Measures, officials said.
The meetings will focus on a draft plan by the department to prepare for the 1993 or 1994 arrival of the aggressive Africanized honey bee, officials said.
The plan, created by the San Diego-Imperial Counties Africanized Honey Bee Task Force, will offer presentations about the bees and outline strategies for public education, including training suggestions for fire and rescue personnel, officials said.
Three meetings have been scheduled for late April and early May in El Cajon, Escondido and San Diego.
