Kurt Waldheim

Share

The articles about the lunch between German Chancellor Helmut Kohl and Austrian President Kurt Waldheim (March 27, 28, 30 and 31) raise some interesting questions.

Waldheim has never been tried let alone convicted of any crime, and yet the United States government has ostracized Waldheim, and barred him from entering the United States. Does this seem fair?

One of the basis tenets of our society is that a person is to be considered innocent until proven guilty. Why is Waldheim treated as if he were an escaped felon?

By putting Waldheim “on trial” in public forums where he can neither answer his accusers nor atone for his sins if guilty, we have unfairly condemned him.
