CHULA VISTA : Gunman in Hostage Siege to Stand Trial
A judge Wednesday ordered Robert Jacobsen, a murder suspect who held hostages at gunpoint inside a medical center, to stand trial in Superior Court on 11 charges.
Jacobsen, 35, is accused of killing an elderly Chula Vista man in his home and 10 days later holding a doctor, patients and others against their will at the ReadiCare Center in Chula Vista.
Amir Kolahzadeh, 19, testified Tuesday at Jacobsen’s preliminary hearing that he was held for 26 hours before being released.
Although 10 people were initially confined in the facility on Feb. 28, Jacobsen is charged with four counts of false imprisonment because Jacobsen released many of the people, Deputy Dist. Atty. Gordon Davis said. No hostages were injured.
Before taking the hostages, Jacobsen learned that police had named him a suspect in the Feb. 18 slaying of William Warden, 74, who was killed in his Chula Vista home during a burglary. Prosecutors are seeking a first-degree murder conviction in Warden’s death.
San Diego Municipal Judge Judith Hayes ordered Jacobsen to be arraigned in Superior Court on April 22.
