President Bush has nominated San Diego Superior Court Judge Irma E. Gonzalez to the U.S. District Court for California’s Southern District.

Sen. John Seymour announced Wednesday that Bush nominated Gonzalez, whom Seymour recommended for the federal bench last fall. Her nomination requires approval by the U.S. Senate.

Gonzalez has served in Superior Court since January, 1991. Before that she was a U.S. magistrate in San Diego. Gonzalez was an attorney with a private San Diego law firm from 1981 to 1984. She also worked as an assistant U.S. attorney handling criminal cases from 1975 to 1981, first in Tucson, Ariz., and then in Los Angeles.
