The Philadelphia Phillies put center fielder Len Dykstra on the 15-day disabled list because of a broken wrist, and pitcher Jose DeJesus may miss the season because of a shoulder injury. DeJesus has a torn rotator cuff in his pitching shoulder that could be career threatening, according to Dr. Phillip Marone, who made the initial diagnosis. DeJesus, who was 10-9 last season, will be examined by Dr. Frank Jobe April 16.

A bone in Dykstra’s left wrist was broken when he was hit by a pitch from Greg Maddux in the first inning of Tuesday’s opener against the Cubs. He played the whole nine innings despite the injury.

The Cincinnati Reds put third baseman Chris Sabo on the 15-day disabled list because he couldn’t put any weight on his sprained right ankle, which he injured while sliding Tuesday night. . . . Nolan Ryan, currently on the 15-day disabled list because of ailing legs, has been limited to workouts in a swimming pool until next Monday, when his condition will be re-evaluated.
