CSUN’s Morales Out With Elbow Injury

Cal State Northridge pitcher Steven Morales will be sidelined for at least the rest of April because of an injury to his right elbow, Coach Bill Kernen said Wednesday.

Morales, a junior right-hander, injured his elbow throwing a split-finger fastball during the third inning of Saturday’s game against Nevada. Morales immediately summoned Kernen to the mound and was removed from the game.

“It happened on one pitch,” Kernen said. “To me, that’s the most scary thing of all. I’ve never had a pitcher do something like that on one particular pitch. The times I’ve heard that happened, it hasn’t been good news.”

Morales (4-1) said his arm feels better, but he agrees with Kernen’s decision to keep him from pitching.
