Carved in Stone: Oliver Stone, the controversial film director (“JFK,” “Platoon”), has been signed by ABC to executive-produce his first work for the home screen--a six-hour “event series” based on the comic strip “Wild Palms.” Screenwriter-novelist Bruce Wagner, creator of the strip, will write the series and executive-produce it with Stone. “Wild Palms” centers on a television executive who is entranced with a new futuristic technology that frees participants from time and place. The strip has been appearing in Details magazine for two years. ABC said the series could air as early as this fall and would be broadcast on a weekly basis rather than the consecutive-night miniseries format.
