Pac Bell Discloses Security Breach in Radio Contest: Pacific Bell said some of its employees had used internal phone company information to win money on a KRTH-FM radio call-in contest. A Pacific Bell spokeswoman said an undisclosed number of employees, in clear violation of Pacific Bell policies, had used KRTH-FM telephone account information to get faster connections and thus win some of the station’s hourly $1,000 cash giveaways. She said the company “will be taking disciplinary action, likely to include suspensions and/or dismissals” when the investigation is completed. The scheme came to light when a Pacific Bell employee saw what was going on and informed a supervisor.
