NORTHRIDGE : Cleary Proposed for Honorary Title
The Faculty Senate at Cal State Northridge has recommended that retiring university President James W. Cleary be named president emeritus by the state university board of trustees.
The senate, which is made up of faculty members elected by their colleagues to represent them, offered the tribute to Cleary at the organization’s meeting Thursday.
After taking a vote on the recommendation, the senators gave a standing ovation to Cleary, who has guided the university since 1969.
President emeritus is an honorary title.
A replacement for Cleary is being sought and campus officials said this week that the five finalists will be announced soon. Cleary’s successor is expected to be named by May 20.
