Walnut : Official City Song Chosen
A spirited folk tune extolling Walnut’s “babbling brooks, wooded footpaths and meadows” and cautioning against overdevelopment was adopted as the official city song last week by the City Council.
The council listened to a taped rendition of “The Hills of Walnut,” written by resident Nancy Dodd Fausel, before voting unanimously to make it Walnut’s own.
The five-verse song was featured at the 1991 Walnut Family Festival.
“That’s a two-six-packer around the campfire,” joked Councilman Drexel L. Smith after the song’s final harmony was sounded.
