Are Freebies for Council Justified or Mickey Mouse?
In reference to three articles in the April 3 edition, I would like to make some comments. The members of the Anaheim and Garden Grove city councils need to review the meaning of immoral, unethical and immodest, and consider their importance.
The Anaheim City Council grants permission to a developer to build in Coal Canyon and, as a result, destroy its natural state, which includes the last three stands of native Tecate cypress trees and important habitat for cougars. This is immoral. (So environmentally immoral that the state of California is seeking an injunction to stop the development.)
Next, the same council members accept big-money gifts from Disneyland, yet feel there is no conflict of interest to vote on Disneyland’s request to expand. This is unethical.
Lastly, the Garden Grove City Council is fighting to keep a bookstore from having topless waitresses in a juice bar. Public nudity is immodest.
I ask the question: Which of these behaviors--immodesty, immorality or unethical actions--is really harmful to the public which the council members serve?
