Perot’s Candidacy
I agree with William F. Buckley’s political judgment about as often as a Bush sound bite displays Churchillian eloquence. But on the subject of H. Ross Perot’s quixotic presidential quest, Buckley is on target (Column Right, April 2). Perot’s run for the presidency reveals chutzpah to the billion(aire’s)th power. Perot reduces America’s problems to one simple proposition: The federal government refuses to operate according to his idiosyncratic business standards.
His solution: buy the presidency and co-opt Congress. The result: President (Good Czar) H. Ross saves the nation. The pseudo-populist subtlety of mind behind his argument makes Shirley MacLaine appear to be a post-doc from Caltech.
