Clinton Has Big Lead in Virginia Caucuses
Democratic presidential front-runner Bill Clinton appears to be in strong command of Virginia’s vote, taking more than half of the state’s local delegates after the first of two rounds of Democratic caucuses.
With most of the Saturday caucus results in, Clinton had 52.5% of the local delegates, an uncommitted slate had 32.5% and former California Gov. Edmund G. (Jerry) Brown Jr. had 15%, state Democratic Party Chairman Paul Goldman said. The remaining caucuses will be held tonight.
The delegates selected at the caucuses will go to state and congressional-district conventions that will ultimately pick the state’s 78 delegates to the national convention in July.
