LOS ANGELES : Canter’s Restaurant Urged to Settle Labor Dispute

Share

Four state legislators and a member of the Los Angeles City Council called on the management of Canter’s Restaurant to negotiate with Local 11 of the Hotel Employees and Restaurant Employees Union to settle a 2-year-old labor dispute.

“There is no justification for your refusal to talk,” the five lawmakers said in a letter. Assembly members Terry B. Friedman, Burt Margolin and Barbara Friedman joined state Sen. Herschel Rosenthal and City Councilman Zev Yaroslavsky in declaring that they have stayed away from Canter’s because of the boycott.

Marc Canter, a member of the Canter family, said that the letter, released Thursday, showed a lack of understanding of the issues. A decertification election requested by some employees has been delayed by union complaints of labor law violations.
